Challenge
The building’s rooftop presented a complex waterproofing environment, with an irregular layout incorporating multiple interconnected roof zones, plant areas, equipment, services and penetrations. The existing membrane had deteriorated considerably, with widespread cracking, flaking and debonding compromising its performance and increasing the risk of water ingress. Different roof configurations and substrates required tailored waterproofing approaches, while existing rooftop infrastructure added complexity to preparation and installation. Careful planning was needed to address each nominated area, improve drainage where required and achieve effective detailing around penetrations, vertical surfaces and perimeter terminations.

RCR Services delivered a tailored waterproofing upgrade across the nominated roof areas. Failed membrane was mechanically removed, and the underlying concrete was diamond ground and pressure cleaned to create a sound substrate. Roof falls were improved where required to reduce ponding and direct water towards existing drainage points. A new Soprema Soprasun torch-on membrane system was then installed, with treatments suited to the different roof zones and substrates. Works included vertical detailing, waterproofing around existing rooftop features and Colorbond termination flashings. The completed upgrade restored roof protection and improved water management while accommodating the building’s existing plant, equipment and services.
