Challenge
RCR Services has recently completed another successful project at 327-329 Bourke Street, Melbourne. RCR identified significant water ingress issues caused by a severely deteriorated waterproofing membrane on the rooftop. Multiple layers of existing membranes were found, which we recommended removing, and installing a new 2-layer bitumen waterproofing membrane system. Additionally, substantial concrete deterioration was observed, particularly in the parapet walls, which required specialised repairs.
solutions
The project scope included removing the existing deteriorated membrane from the rooftop, and diamond grinding the entire concrete substrate to remove all imperfections. The parapet walls underwent extensive concrete spalling repairs, and coving was reconstructed to ensure there was a sound substrate to apply a new 2-layer bitumen torch on sheet waterproofing membrane system. Due to high moisture levels in the concrete substrate, a ventilation underlay and extra vents were installed in the membrane to allow the moisture to disperse without affecting the new waterproofing membrane system. Parapet capping flashings and termination bars were also installed to the entire perimeter of the new waterproofing membrane system to ensure an adequate termination.
The project was successfully completed, addressing all identified issues and ensuring a durable and long-lasting waterproofing solution for our client.
