Objectives
RCR conducted a wet test to find that there were several leaks along the stadium area. Our inspection also found that small joints along the stadium seating were leaking significantly when water was placed on the joint for a short period of time. The water was entering the joint from multiple areas and landing on the bondek which is visible from the basement.
The water then tracked down the bondek tray and was escaping through electrical penetrations in the bondek and then dripping off where the bondek meets the wall.
We also discovered a large expansion joint caused a significant amount of water to enter the basement and drip onto the floor. We found that the join where the stepped seating foundation meets the concrete walls, has previously been caulked, however was causing a significant amount of water to enter the basement almost immediately.
solutions
The excessive amount of water leaking into the stadium basement indicated the need for chairs on top of the affected joint to be removed and the area to be cleaned and prepared. The existing caulking was removed and backing rod was installed as required to joint. The affected areas were sealed, primed and waterproofed with Duromastic AC Non-Slip liquid membrane reinforced with fiberglass. Further coats were applied over primer to ensure the area was fully waterproofed, preventing any water from leaking through to the basement.
